David William Johns passed away suddenly on January 18, 2010 in Hampton, Virginia. David retired from the Air Force and regularly attended our reunions. I know many of you were good friends of his through school and his church. There will be a memorial service for David at 11 am tomorrow (Friday, January 29, 2010) at Ruthfred Lutheran Church. David is being buried in Bethel Cemetery. I was hoping to have more details to pass along to everyone, as I was told his death notice would appear in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette today, but that did not happen. I have also learned that David’s father still lives in Bethel Park and attends Ruthfred Lutheran Church. From our reunion committee, we sincerely want to express our condolences as David will sadly be missed by all of us. Our prayers and thoughts are with David’s family at this time. Pat Brown 6/12/12 from Dave's daughter, Davida... I just wanted to thank you for the kind words written about my late father. Also I know there was question as to whether he was Navy or Air Force and I assure you it was Air Force. I remember the first reunion he went to vividly. He didn't want to go since it was my 21st birthday. However I insisted and said it was important that he go. Thankfully he agreed. And when he came home I know that he was very happy that he had gone. Davida is going to send me a picture from about 2008 to post. |
| Charles Nichols
As I look back and remember Chuck, I would like to share a memory with you...... (Pat Quel Brown) Chuck never drove a car, but he rode the light rail system every day for years to a beauty shop he owned off Route 88 which was located at the entrance to my housing plan. Thus, I would see him almost on a daily bases getting on or off the trolley while I was also going to work. On many occasions, I had time to stop and talk with him. Several years ago, he closed his beauty shop to start working in a new salon closer to his home, which I believe was near Shady Side, so we lost personal contact. But a friend of mine always remembered to tell Chuck “Hi” for me and kept the line of communication going. One time Chuck and his sister Avis came to a women’s organization I belong to and presented a program on hair and beauty care. He surely knew these topics well. The following is his funeral notice as written in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette which read as follows: Charles R. Nichols Of Friendship on Tuesday, January 13, 2009. Beloved brother of Clair Nichols (Lesa), Michael Nichols (Sue) and Avis Zader (David). Uncle of Erica Carnevali. Great uncle of Catherine Carnevali. Friends will be received at the East Liberty Presbyterian Church on Friday from 5:30 pm until time of service at 7:30 pm. Arrangements McCabe Bros., Inc. |
